The real culture behind it

狮头 is the head of a lion-dance costume. Lions are not native to China; envoys brought them to the Han court, and by the Tang the court staged a five-lion dance while Bai Juyi described a lion with a carved wooden head and gilded eyes. The Southern lion of Guangdong, the 醒狮 or “awakened lion”, is woken by eye-dotting (点睛) with cinnabar and grew up inside kung fu schools. S-GAME says it brought in lion-dance masters from Guangdong.

The fire has a real ancestor too: the Song “fierce-fire oil cabinet” (猛火油柜), a double-piston petroleum flamethrower illustrated in the Wujing Zongyao (1044). The weapon shares its 烈焰 with the boss Flame, the Lion Dance Grandmaster; whether he drops it is not confirmed.
