The real culture behind it
Drunken sword (醉剑) is a real family of routines in Chinese martial arts, built on the same staggering, feinting body mechanics as drunken boxing (醉拳); the swordsman looks unbalanced while staying in control. The pairing of wine and the sword runs back to Tang poetry — Li Bai is the archetypal drinking swordsman-poet.
The epithet 剑痴, "sword fanatic", uses 痴 (obsessed, besotted), a word wuxia fiction loves for characters consumed by a single art.
