彭猛Péng Měngthe Axemaster
A Chapter 1 boss whose Dread Axe becomes Soul’s first Phantom Edge, per previews from CGMagazine, TheSixthAxis and A9VG.
What the name means
| Character | Pinyin | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| 彭 | péng | a surname; the Shuowen glosses it as a drumbeat |
| 猛 | měng | fierce, ferocious |
| 斧老大 | fǔ lǎodà | “Big Boss Axe”: 斧 axe + 老大 boss, eldest brother |
The real culture behind it
斧老大 is gang slang: 老大 means “boss” or “eldest brother”, so the title reads roughly “Big Boss Axe”. 彭 is a surname that the Shuowen jiezi explains as the sound of a drum, and 猛 means fierce — a name that arrives loudly.
The axe is among China’s oldest weapons; Bronze Age rulers carried the broad yue (钺) as a sign of the power to punish. Fiction handed it to its wildest brawlers: Li Kui, the “Black Whirlwind” of Water Margin, fights with twin axes, and the storytellers’ Cheng Yaojin is remembered for his “three axe strokes” (三板斧), now an idiom for a fighter with only a few big moves. Placing Peng Meng in that lineage is our reading.
