Huangxing

荒行子Huāngxíngzǐthe Kunlun Renegade

Name via press

A former hero who fell, with a Sha-Chi berserk form in his second phase. His Chinese name 荒行子 comes from Chinese press; the English plate “Huangxing, the Kunlun Renegade” is a fan reading of official footage.

What the name means

CharacterPinyinMeaning
荒huāngwild, barren
行xíngto walk; to practise
子zǐ“master”, the honorific of Laozi and of Daoist sobriquets
昆仑叛教者Kūnlún pànjiàozhě“Kunlun renegade”: one who betrayed his school

The real culture behind it

荒行子 sounds like a hermit’s Daoist sobriquet: 荒 is wild or barren, 行 is to walk or to practise, and 子 is the honorific “master” of Laozi and Zhuangzi, worn in religious names such as the Quanzhen master Qiu Chuji’s 长春子. Roughly: “master of the wild road”.

昆仑 is the gods’ mountain of the far west in the Classic of Mountains and Seas, home of the Queen Mother of the West, and later a classic wuxia sect — the Kunlun school of Jin Yong’s The Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber. 叛教者 is one who has betrayed his teaching. One reading, ours: a renegade from the mountain of immortals who turns berserk on Sha-Chi has fallen from the highest place in Chinese myth.
