Wooden Sword

木剑mùjiàn

Official name

The game’s weakest weapon, if you take Soulframe Liang at his word: in a September 2026 post he suggested players could try a run “with the weakest wooden sword”.

The real culture behind it

Wooden swords are the training weapons of Chinese sword arts, and they also have a ritual life: Daoist priests wield swords of peach wood (桃木剑) against ghosts, part of an old belief that peach repels evil. New Year couplets began as peach-wood charms (桃符), which is why Wang Anshi’s poem on New Year’s Day has every household swapping “new peach for the old charm” (总把新桃换旧符). Tying the game’s sword to peach wood is our inference.

Wuxia gives the wooden sword its highest honour. In Jin Yong’s The Return of the Condor Heroes, the sword tomb of Dugu Qiubai traces a master’s life through his blades: a keen sword, a soft sword, a heavy blunt one and finally a wooden sword, for after forty he was “no longer bound to things; grass, wood, bamboo or stone could all be a sword”.
